'Variety' supports Sofia's tourist pull

One of the factors that makes Sofia attractive to tourists is its geographical proximity to more rural locations.

City guide Veneteslav Nikolov has told Top News that many visitors appreciate the ease with which they can escape the city and head into the nearby Vitosa mountains - a fact which he describes as "a great treasure" of the Bulgarian capital.

The tour guide also identified a number of further traits which make Sofia an attractive prospect for holidaymakers - and potentially for those looking to invest in Bulgarian property to take advantage of its burgeoning tourist market.

In particular, the rich cultural diversity of the city is a draw for many, Mr Nikolov asserts, adding: "You only have to walk a few minutes to visit churches from every religion and age. It's like a walk through our history."

The Bulgarian capital's cultural activities are becoming increasingly recognised, with Visit Bulgaria reporting this week on the capital's bike parade to mark World Earth Day and the International News featuring a piece on the third Belgian Culinary Festival held in the city.
