Turkey and Egypt have been named by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) among destinations that many British people will be visiting in 2009.

Overseas property investors keen on expanding their portfolios may be glad to hear that a "significant" amount of British people plan to visit these destinations as they avoid places that use the Euro, the organisations said.

Last year Egypt registered a 38 per cent increase in the number of Brits visiting the country while Turkey saw an increase of 32 per cent, according to the FCO & ABTA 2009 Travel Trends Report.

"It is predicted that the proportion of Brits travelling to destinations outside Europe will increase," said Julian Braithwaite, director of consular services at the FCO.

"It is really important that Brits familiarise themselves with the local laws and customs before they go."

In its popularity predictions for 2009, overseas property portal Homesgofast.com named Egypt alongside Dubai and Tunisia as the top three places to invest in the Middle East and Africa.ADNFCR-1548-ID-18953169-ADNFCR
