Foreign nationals are to be allowed to apply for positions as specialists in Bulgaria's state administration, the country's prime minister has revealed.
Outlining his plans to bring Bulgaria closer to the rest of the EU member states, as well as the European Commission, Sergey Stanishev announced plans for new legislative changes regarding the possible recruitment of foreigners into the state apparatus.
Under the government's proposals, Britons and other foreigners would be permitted to take on medium-to-high-ranking roles in the Bulgarian civil service should they be able to prove they are uniquely qualified, though the premier was keen to stress in a meeting with several EU ministers that the forthcoming legislation will not impinge on existing guidelines set out by Brussels in order to bring former Eastern Bloc nations further on board.
Mr Stanishev added that, by recruiting top overseas professionals, Bulgaria will continue to sell itself as a popular destination for investment and relocation.
"Bulgaria has done a lot of work over the last years and the scale of the reforms implemented can be described as a revolution," he added, according to the Sofia News Agency.
Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007, having been a member of NATO since 2004.
