Romania benefiting from salary increases

Romania

14th April 2008
Workers in Romania are starting to benefit from rising levels of income.

Many Romanians are beginning to find working in their own country more appealing than working in neighbouring Hungary, according to recent figures, in news that could spell improved fortunes for those investing in real estate in the country.

A recent study undertaken by Hewitt Associates found that management salaries in Hungary are expected to rise by 7.2 per cent while in Romania this figure is expected to be closer to 11 per cent.

A similar rise for blue collar workers will see Romanian salaries increase by nine per cent compared to 6.5 per cent in Hungary.

A growing influx of cash into the Romanian marketplace is good news for investors and property owners in the area as there could be increased competition for rented accommodation through an influx of migrant and Romanian workers into the country.

According to figures released by the National Forecast Commission, the average gross annual salary in Romania is likely to rise to Lei 1,580 in 2008, up from Lei 1,410 last year.
