Investors in the UK buy-to-let property sector are set to benefit from ongoing strong demand for rental accommodation as growing numbers of young people choose to go to university, it has been claimed.

According to the most recent figures released by the university admissions body Acas, applications for higher education courses rose by eight per cent over the past 12 months, with many youngsters opting to learn rather than attempt to enter a stagnant jobs market.

As such, this spells good news for property investors, with Assetz revealing that buy-to-let investments are now returning typical yields of around six per cent a year.

Pointing to the financial benefits of the student sector, the firm's chief executive Stuart Law stated: "With traditional buy to let landlords currently seeing stable, rather than growing, rents and rising unemployment underway, this is one sector of the property market which is set to benefit from the economic downturn and is a great diversifier."

At the same time, a number of leading universities have argued that students would not be deterred from further studies even if tuition fees were increased by £2,000 a year.ADNFCR-1548-ID-19079744-ADNFCR
