A property expert has claimed that buying a home is more cost effective than renting.
According to Gail O'Sullivan of property developers Bellway Manchester, owning a home has advantages and potential property investors should consider this before opting to settle for lets.
"Many homebuyers are not aware that they could be spending more on rent than they would on mortgage payments," he said.
"Owning a home has clear advantages over renting including the benefits of having made a long term investment and gradually gaining ownership of an appreciating asset."
The developer is now offering potential property investors an opportunity to buy property for £99,000 at its Sandfield Park development on Crompton Way, Manchester.
According to the developer, average rents in the area are around £500 and investors stand to make savings if they decide to buy.
The current decline in house prices should be good news for property investors, says Rightmove.co.uk. This is because the lower prices make them strongly placed to get their desired properties.
